Dr. Chris Sumner

Dr Sumner graduated from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. She worked in small animal practice in Seattle, Wa for 6 years, before relocating to Nebraska to raise her son. After 2 years in private practice in Lincoln she started at the emergency clinic when it opened and has remained for 15 years. While not at work she loves to play with her dogs. The dogs play obedience, agility, tracking, scentwork and sometimes treiball. She also enjoys art for relaxation and even studied that at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio.

Dr Sumner is a member of the AVMA and the VECCS.

Technicians and Assistants

Vanessa, LVT

Vanessa is a licensed veterinary technician. She graduated from Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in May 2008. She’s been with the Veterinary Emergency Services since December 2008. She loves big mutts and can notlie, she has an Alaskan Malamute named Luna and a Great Pyrenees mix named Vera. Both rescues! Her previous rescues included a Shih Tzu named Sophie Lou and a labradoodle named Marley. What she enjoys most about veterinary medicine is teaching and educating clients. Second favorite is venipunctures. She enjoys working in emergency medicine because you have to think fast and act quickly on cases. It’s a lot of a balance act. However she does miss having the client-pet relationship that you build with day practices. When she’s not working she enjoys spending time with her family & friends, going for walks, scrapbooking, reading and biking.

Brittany, LVT

Brittany graduated from Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in 2003 with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology.

Valerie graduated from Omaha College of Health Careers in 1998 with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology.

Kylie is a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She received her Associate Degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology at Northeast Community College of Nebraska in 2016. She started working here at Veterinary Emergency Services in 2018 and previously worked at Cottonwood Vet Clinic in Kearney, NE. She loves both places but has definitely foundthat the night shift was made for her, and emergency medicine is where she’s meant to be. In her free time, she watches her favorite shows and movies (The Office, Great British Baking Show, and Harry Potter to name a few), practices piano, and spends time with friends and family.
